Ebay Regular Update & Verification - Email Scam
8th January 2004
This apparent Ebay Update and Verification is a
scam ...
This spoof takes the form of
a text email with a button link (see image below), but that link will
lead to a forged eBay page.
The spoof email suggests that eBay have conducted
this regular update and verification, and subsequently your account
is limited and will be closed after 24 hours, unless you use the button
link and supply various forms of identity and financial information.
The forged eBay web page is located at http://66.36.240.8/
stresu99.com/verif which resolves to The HopOne Internet
Corp® in Washington DC, USA, and has nothing to do with eBay at all.
If you have received this hoax email, please remember
that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later
date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake
page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one
of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one
and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from
the same apparent sender. |
