eBay Safeharbor Department - Email Scam
9th January 2004
Have eBay really introduced this Security Check
by email? -
Not this time, its a scam ...
This spoof email is a forged Ebay
form requiring your user name and password (see image below). The email
very briefly asks that you complete the form as it is a new 'security
check'.
The email is coded to send any data submitted through
skincarec.com's PHPFormMail script to a Yahoo email address (vanilatu9@yahoo.com).
If you have fallen prey to this scam and have submitted
information, we strongly advise you to contact eBay's live support so that
they may secure your account. Accounts that are hijacked in this way are
often used to list high value goods on eBay. The scammers then accept payments
but do not send the goods.
If you have received this hoax email, please remember
that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later
date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake
page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one
of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one
and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from
the same apparent sender. |
