eBay Account Restricted- Spoof Email Phishing Scam
21st February 2004
" Dear eBay user, We didn't
received your update information. During our regular update and
verification of the accounts, we could not verify your current information. Either
your information has changed or it is incomplete. "...
read also our brief guide to Phishing
This spoof eBay email (see image below) is a forgered eBay
sign in page.
Supplying your username and password into this fake page
will result in your browser opening the genuine ebay.com home page together with
a forged web form which opens in a separate window (see image below). The bogus
web form window has its tool and address bars removed thereby concealing its
true URL, and the genuine ebay.com page adds authenticity to this malicious phishing
scam.
The bogus web form goes on to ask for more information including
your address, credit/debit card and bank details, etc. It is stored at http://www.jpcustoms.com/store/customer/.....
which is hosted by
tera-byte.com.
If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these
email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different
content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider.
Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to
receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although
not necessarily from the same apparent sender. |
