eBay.com Protection - Spoof Email Phishing Scam
22nd February 2004
" Dear eBay User,
During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we could not verify
your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete. "...
read also our brief guide to Phishing
This spoof eBay email (see image below) warns that if you
do not complete the form provided in the bogus eBay web page (see image below)
that the message links to, your acount will be deleted.
The link in the email is disguised using html code to look
like a genuine eBay.com link, but it will actually open a forged eBay web form
with www.bollweck.com as the address. This page is hosted by 34sp.com and the
domain has falsified registrant contact information.
If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these
email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different
content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider.
Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to
receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although
not necessarily from the same apparent sender.
