eBay A21 FPA NOTICE: possible account access by a third party - Spoof Email Phishing Scam
25th February 2004
" We
recently noticed one or more attempts to log in to your eBay account from a foreign
IP address and we have reasons to believe that your account was hijacked by a
third party without your authorization."...
read also our brief guide to Phishing
This spoof eBay email (see image below) comes in text form
with a disguised link to a forged eBay web page. The message is written in HTML.
There is no attempt, this time, to conceal the URL of the
bogus web page, other than coding the link to look like a genuine eBay URL. The
URL http://66.206.1.180/ resolves to internet space owned by
Cyber World Internet Services in the USA.
The bogus web form asks for plenty of information
including your address, credit/debit card and bank details, etc.
If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these
email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different
content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider.
Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to
receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although
not necessarily from the same apparent sender.
