eBay - Important notice! - Spoof Email Phishing Scam
1st March 2004
" We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures.
Your account has been selected for this maintenance. "...
read also our brief guide to Phishing
This spoof eBay email (see image below) comes in HTML format
with genuine graphics drawn from eBay's own servers just to add a sense of authenticity.
Submitting the required information into this form will
send that data on to the scammers via a form to mail processing service at corpex.com
Once you've supplied this information, you have every chance
of losing control of your eBay and email accounts to the fraudsters. Hijacked
eBay accounts are frequently used to sell high value items for the scammers to
earn money from unsuspecting eBay buyers. The buyers would not, of-course, receive
the goods.
If you have received this email, please remember that it
is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with
only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted
by a different provider.
Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it
is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two
after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender. |
