Barclays iBank customers are asked to confirm
their account information due to a technical update...
Yet another bank email scam which this time targets Barclays
iBank users with the bogus suggestion of a technical update that requires them
to confirm their account information using the link provided.
The link is disguised to look like it will open a genuine Barclays
iBank web page, but it will in fact direct your browser to a forged page located
at http://pfsolb.info/1logon00.htm which resolves to web space at Gandi.net in
the USA.
How the bogus web page is presented is important here, and again
we see the forged page served up to look as if it is a pop up window generated
by the genuine Barclays page which is also opened once the link is pressed. Fraudsters
give the bogus page the pop up look by removing the address and tool
bars (see image below).
If you have received this email, please remember that it is very
common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly
different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different
provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common
place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first,
although not necessarily from the same apparent sender. The Spoof Email ...
The
bogus web page (the smaller window is the bogus page and is constructed to look
like it is a pop up generated by the genuine Barclays page which is opened in
the background)... |
