An email purporting to be from US Bank asks
users to check their personal mailbox is part of a phishing scam involving web
space owned by Taiwan's Ministry of Education Computer Center...
This US Bank email is a spoof and one which urges recipients
to access a new message in their personal mailbox by using the link provided.
The link has been disguised using HTML code and appears to be a genuine link
to the usbank.com site, but it is not and iut will in fact open your browser
to a forged US Bank web page.
The forged US Bank page takes the form of a webform which requires
your account, card and social security numbers, all of which will be sent to
the scammers via a script at the same address - http://163.15.154.207/ which
resolves to the Taiwan Ministry of Education Computer Center in Taipei.
If you have received this email, please remember that it is very
common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly
different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different
provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common
place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first,
