" eBay user, You are registered with eBay using the following email address "...
This
spoofed eBay email (see image below) is in HTML format and urges you to use the
link provided to protect your account.
Thge link does of-course lead to a very realistic but forged
eBay page (a sign in page). The URL of the page (as seen in your browser's address
bar) is nothing like a genuine eBay URL - http://aw-cgi202.netfirms.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll/in.htm
- although it does contain parts of the usual eBay URLs in an attempt to make
it appear to be authentic. The domain netfirms.com is a web host and does not
host pages for eBay.
Any information submitted is
processed through a script located in the same web space as the forged eBay sign
in page.
If you have received this email, please remember that it is very
common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly
different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different
provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common
place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first,
although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.
The Spoof Email (portions of the text
that contain the recipient's email address has been greyed out)...
