1. Note that this phishing scam is similar but far from identical to
a US Bank scam reported on the 31st May 2004

 

" Dear Client, This correspondence has been specifically sent to you to safeguard your US. Bank account against any unauthorized activity. "...

 

Note that the email appears to be plain text. This is an attempt to persuade users that the fake US Bank URL is in fact real.

If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. (Note that this scam is similar but identical to a US Bank phishing scam reported on the 31st May 2004 Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.

 

The Spoof Email (plain text)...

Dear Client, This correspondence has been specifically sent to you to safeguard your US. Bank account against any unauthorized activity. We recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your U.S. Bank account may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. Protecting the security of your account and of the U.S. Bank network is out primary concern. Please be aware that untill we can verify your identity your account will remain restricted and we will have no other liability for your account or any transaction that may have occured as a result of your failure to reactivate your account as instructed below. To verify your account information and start using our services please click on the link below: https://www4.usbank.com/internetBanking/RequestRouter?requestCmdId=DisplayOnLineBanking Your prompt attention is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and continued business with U.S. Bank. Sincerely, D. Fairchild Manager, U.S. Bank Fraud Risk Management Please do not reply to this mail.
