This hoax eBay email has been in distribution from 15th October 2003 and we have an image of the email. This is just animage of the original, so there is absolutely no code included and none of the links or buttons will now work. The image shown has been reduced to 80% of the original size
The fake email...
The hoax eBay email suggests
that your eBay account could be suspended due to some
unexplained reason, and requests that you update your account information
using the form provided within that email. This is an excellent example
of how Identity Theft occurs through 'phishing'
(a term used for this kind of theft of critical information, such as
credit/debit card, bank, social security number and site user name and
password).....

The fake web page...
This is a poorly constructed fake eBay web page (the graphics are particularly poor quality). The page contains a form (as shown) and any information entered and then submitted will be sent to a yahoo geocities form mail data collection page for later retrieval by the scammers. Yahoo's geocities features strongly, withh the vast majority of the graphics being located at the user's geocities web space as well as being the point where all data is sent, and the page was even constructed using the Yahoo PageBuilder.
You will notice, also, that hte URL has nothing to do with eBay......

The domain www.ebay-data.org was registered through melbourneit.com on the 11th October and is hosted by yahoo.com.....
