eBay 'Security Update' email hoax strikes again ... Unlike most email hoaxes, this one includes the web form (which requests eBay user name, password and debit or credit card details) within the email itself (see image below). We traced the script which processes the form data and sends it on to the scammers to web space operated by a 1t3.com in British Columbia. Having looked at the contact information, it appears to be falsified at least. If you have received this hoax email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender. |
