Spoof email links to a spoof webpage where victim is prompted to enter their details believing the site is genuine. Details are then forwarded to a local script and captured.

1. Email claims to be from AOL asking you to confirm your account data by clicking on the link. You will be taken to a spoof login page where your details will be captured by the phishers.

2. AOL never send users emails requesting details in this way.

3. Spoof website is quite complex, complete with an animated 'loading' screen before the page shown below. Looks very professional but don't be fooled!

4. Website traced to Jeannette, USA.

5. If you recieve this spoof it may be addressed directly to you but don't be fooled!

If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.

Dear x@aol.com:

AOL is performing a routine update on all user accounts. We need you to please verify your registration status via the SSL encrypted link provided along with this email. All AOL user account(s) must be verified within 24 hours of time.Failure to comply can lead to possible termination or suspension of your AOL account(s), and a $20.00 reprocessing fee will be required to reactivate. AOL will not charge you for any amount, the information submitted by AOL users will ONLY be for verification purposes.

AOL staff members will NEVER request billing/registration information to be submitted via email. ALWAYS use the SSL encrypted links provided. Please do not reply to this automated email.
