eBay Spoof email and web page scam
15th September 2003

eBay account suspension email hoax raises its ugly head yet again!

One of our site users sent this email in to us on the 14th November 2003. This is the same spoof email scam that we reported on the 15th September and it comes in its original form with the same wording and web form.

This re-issue of this hoax, reinforces our statement that it is common for these spoof emails to be redistributed. Remember also, that once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first.

This email suggests that there are some problems with your account, although it doesn't say exactly what these 'problems' really are. It goes on to ask that you update your information using the web form in the lower part of the email.

The fake email is very convincing with the genuine eBay graphics called up from their own servers. The header is even spoofed to make it seem like the email has originated from eBay, but it has not.

If you supply that information in the form, and then submit it, the information will be captured utilising PHP script located at abandonedsheep.com (which is hosted by 34sp.com), while you are unwittingly sent on to a genuine ebay.com page.
