EARTHLINK.NET SPOOF EMAIL SCAM - Update Credit Card information

This hoax email purports to be from Earthlink.net and it tells you that your account information is not up to date. It goes on to say that if you do not update your credit or debit card infromation, you may not be able to use the Earthlink.net service. A cloaked link is provided within that email, for you to proceed with updating this information.

As we discussed in the previous Earthlink.net email scam - these spoof emails have a terrible habit of reappearing with links to different web pages, and this is certainly proven to be the case. There are some differences to the previous spoof email, but the presentation and suggestion are pretty much the same.

In this hoax, scammers are preying on those in fear of losing their Earthlink access to the internet. Tainted with just the

right suggestion, this email aims to convince recipients to use the link in the email to prevent this from happening. No, it wont take you to the genuine Earthlink site at all (the fake is very convincing), instead it will lead you to a forged Earthlink web [age. See the images (below) for more.

If you go ahead with providing the information that you are asked to provide in the forged web page (which is also very convincing to the undiscerning eye), it will be captured and relayed to the scammers utilising PHP script. From then on, they can gain control of your credit or debit card and email account (not forgeting that with the right tools, they could make withdrawals from a cash point or ATM).

The Forged Earthlink.net Web Page...

The hoax web page really does looks like a genuine Earthlink page. The best indication that it is a forgery is the URL shown in the browser address bar .....
