Spoof Email - eBay Security Measures Swindle

The day has come ..... the eBay Account Hijackers are now pretending to be eBay telling you that account hijackers may have tried to access your account!

Have you received an eBay Email which tells you that someone from a foreign IP address has tried to access your account? Well, its a fake, forgery and a Hoax Email Scam created and distributed by the type of people that the email suggests it will protect you from. Its purpose is much the same of previous Hoax eBay Email Scams - to gain control of your eBay account and offer high price goods, take the money but never send a buyer a thing - and to take control of your personal financial information (such as Credit or Debit Card, Bank and Social Security Numbers) to use to their own benefit.

In this new twist, scammers are preying on the security
conscious with just the right suggestion to get them to use
the link in the spoof email. No, it wont take you to the genuine eBay site at all, instead it will lead you to a fake eBay page. This may well be the first showing of this hoax email, but following its predecessors' usual form, it will not be the last, so please read on and get familiar with because, it may be in your inbox soon .....

The Spoof Email...

This hoax email apparently came from CustomerSupport@ebay.com, but this is spoofed (forged by altering the header information). And its suggestion that there have been a number of attempts to access your account from a 'foreign IP' address are untrue. These kinds of email scams usually have a cloaked link (one which is disguised to read as if it is a link to a genuine eBay page - see part 3 of our article on disguised links in emails). This link actually sends your browser to the link address that you see, thereby relying on the wording within the link to suggest authenticity, but it points to a fake eBay page and one which aims to steal your personal and financial information.
