DoS Attack on MillerSmiles.co.uk

From 2.20am GMT on the 10th April part of our system was the subject of a prolonged attack ...

The attack was sufficiently severe and prolonged for our Systems Administrators to take the decision to temporarily suspend the entire site to preserve the intergrity of the surrounding and interconnected network. The site was suspended at around 4pm GMT.

It is unfortunate that our endeavours in helping internet users avoid becoming the vicitms of online fraud has brought inappropriate attention from some 'nasty types'. We will continue with this service unabated and have enabled various means of detering such a repeat attack.

Without giving the specifics of the attack, for obvious reasons, we can only say that it was a coordinated attempt to bring the entire site down. The site outage, as said above, came about from a decision born from consideration for the network as a whole. The site would have continued to function had we not removed it, although it would have been fairly slow and sluggish.

We would like to apologise to our site users for the inconvenience caused during this outage, and assure them that our endeavours on this growing field of crime will continue.

Many thanks for all the messages of support, they have helped to lift the spirits of the MillerSmiles.co.uk team.
